HARTFELL TOURNAMENTS

Overview

Courage and glory are the two values held in highest esteem in Hartfell, especially amongst the nobility and knights. The tradition of regular tournaments is long-standing in the city, but the young Duke has been eager to make them even more spectacular than before.

Tournaments are held on various days, including seasonal festivals and in honor of various heroes. Each tournament is assigned a specific format. On the day of the tournament, first the structured tournament occurs. The name of the tournament combines its purpose and format, such as, "Midwinter's Stag" or "The Duke's Ascendant Dragon." Tournaments are never intended to be lethal.

Once the tournament is concluded, an opportunity is given for individuals to challenge each other to duals. Almost always these consist of duels to submission, but on rarely individuals challenge each other in duels to the death. This is permitted, but is reserved for the most extreme situations.

Formats

Types of Tournaments

The Dragon - A series of one-on-one battles
The Hydra - A melee consisting of teams of up to three members
The Stag - An unarmed fighting match where weapons, armor, and magic are forbidden

Types of Duels

The Hand - A duel to submission; afterward the winner must help his defeated opponent to his feet.
The Rose - A duel to the death; afterward, the winner places a single rose on the body of his opponent.
