Process
Read the world's lore and get inspired.
Your character was born and raised in Silverstone or Lotheim
If you're from Lotheim, talk to me and we'll have a reason that you're in Silverstone and familiar with the town.
Most of you haven't been to Solstice, but a few may have spent some time there for specialized training.
Message with questions; I will expand canon
Fit into the world as best you can
Ask me about how to integrate your character into the setting
Complete the Character Survey Form
You can talk to me before or after doing this form, it's up to you. Happy to go back and forth over the next week.
Please have that form completed and a general concept in mind before Session Zero on Wed 7/12.
Ideas will keep growing and shifting, but that way you have something to share with other.
Join the campaign on D&D Beyond, using the link provided in Discord.
Create a character on there, but take your time on the actual build.
That doesn't need to be set right away.
Your DM doesn't care about party balance but the players probably do.
Advice
Context and General Advice
You are not veteran adventurers, you're just slightly-better-than-normal folks who live in a small town. Backstory doesn't need to be epic, but maybe your dreams are big.
Think a lot about your character's personality, goals, flaws, and connections. Pretend they aren't a D&D hero but just a person for a little bit.
Connections are more interesting if they have a story to them
"This is my sister" vs. "This is my sister and she's my world." vs. "This is my sister and we haven't spoken since the incident."
Don't get overly attached to every detail of a physical description. Work with me to help generate art for your PC using Midjourney.
Connections In The World
Think a lot about what your character would want and find appealing in this world. Connections to organizations and people can lead to great roleplay.
A lot of the organizations are based in Solstice. Maybe you haven't been there, but know someone who has, or you dream of joining one of the groups in the big city.
Reach out to your fellow players! It's a small town - you all know each other. Are you brothers? Friends? Rivals?
Favor religions that are popular in this region: Ameir, Campion, Maezira, Nereus, Medius, Riema, Saeval, Vari, and Ydar.
