Overview
Before entering Cinderfall, there is a massive field of ashes that stretches most of the way to the Argent river. Both the trees of Cinderfall as well as the normal trees in the regions struggle to take permanent root here. The area is plagued with small patches of wildfire, but is mostly desolate.
Areas of the Ashen Fields, especially near the Hartfell are often subject to extreme storms as a byproduct of rituals that keep Hartfell's weather ideal. This usually manifests as storms of ash and flame.
Very little life exists in this place, possessing the heat of the Cinderfall but little of its flora or fauna. The residents of Hartfell and Silverstone largely see this areas as a "no man's land" and are thankful to have further buffer from the forest.

Theladris, City of Ash
Before the Twilight War, the Whispering Vale was a massive forest filled with elven cities and towns. One of the larger cities in the empire was Theladris. The city was largely spared during the war itself, but was abandoned swiftly after the Decimation.
The ruins of the city lie in the Ashen Fields, just west of Hartfell. The location of these ruins is well known, but even those willing to travel the wastes tend to avoid it. The site is a locus for the rare and dangerous life in the Ashen Fields.
Many adventurers have ventured into Theladris, but few have returned. It's often seen as a high risk, low reward endeavor as unlike most other ancient ruins, there are no records of Chroma being found in the area.
The most notable site within this city is the Thaldris Runeworks. The basement contains an ancient research facility from the Eltari Empire. It consists of four divisions: Immortal Studies, Gatecrash Training Facility, Elemental Forge, and Project Aldric's Folly.
