Overview
Located in the Western parts of the Whispering Vale, the Cinderfall Forest is a mysterious and dangerous place. It continually goes through cycles of life and rebirth, as the trees there are always on fire. Sometimes, they burn with a bright fire as they grow; others seem to slowly die out and burn to the ground. This makes the very geography of the forest hard to map, as a dense thicket may be a clearing of ash only weeks later.
Very few are willing to brave the Cinderfall Forest - mostly adventurers who seek to make a name for themselves and never return. A great deal of knowledge about the area comes from folklore. The only other outsiders who willingly go into the area are followers of Ydar, who consider the forest to be a sacred place.
The entire forest generates a tremendous amount of heat, and it isn't sustainable to for a normal person to exist in this place for any length of time without magical protection. The natives to the forest are adapted to this environment, and are usually resistant or immune to heat. Most commonly, people in the surrounding areas will encounter fauna that look like normal creatures but are wreathed in flame.
Denizens of the Woods
Absolution / Arianna
A Mysterious Figure
The party believes these two are the same entity - somehow - based on the voices in Thorein's vision.
Little is known about this woman...
Strong connection to Ydar, the Eternal Mother
Seen standing over the ruins of Silverstone, and it appeared she was commanding Embers
Seen twice in human form talking to an older looking Thorein but calling him "Oliver Wintersong." Offered to help him, and he provided her something in a scroll case in exchange.
Embers
Creatures of twisted wood and flame, these everburning monstrosities seem fixed on destruction. They were first spotted coming out of Cinderfall fifteen years ago, but have grown in number recently. The true devastation of Embers was seen in the destruction of Silverstone.
Few things are known about Embers...
Most Embers are about 12 feet tall, but an ember as tall as 25 feet was seen in Silverstone.
They can fire a beam of energy that siphons off the life force of a person, making them exhausted and aging them by one year. These beams seem to be in different colors for different Embers. There is no known remedy for this aging.
They are vulnerable to water, and it can damage them substantially.
Embers are not entirely mindless - they seem capable of obeying orders
The Blazing Revel
A clan of Satyrs native to the Cinderfall Forest. Until recently, they had been fairly isolated. They existed in myth and legend, tales told to children about the dangers of running off to the woods.
They have innate resistances to magic and fire, and seem to have an allegiance to Ydar. Seem to be in some sort of alliance with Absolution and the Embers.
It is believed they may use some sort of flaming bird as a means of scouting.
When fleeing Silverstone, the party was attacked by a group of satyrs led by Kheron Blazehoof, a Satyr Priest riding a flaming stag. The party swiftly dispatched the incursion, but the herbalist Blythe Willowbrooke was killed during the battle.
